More than 2,600 universities have submitted data for Times 黑料吃瓜网’s World University Rankings 2024, which will be published in September.??

The upcoming rankings have seen participation from 2,673 institutions, which is 6 per cent higher than last year and 27 per cent up from two years ago. The number of countries and territories represented this year among universities that submitted entries for analysis is 127, with new entrants including Yemen, Bolivia and Senegal.

The US and Japan have the largest number of participating institutions, with 175 and 169 submissions respectively. The UK follows closely with 163 submissions, while India is fourth with 124. ?

Producing the global ranking involves a mammoth data exercise, with input from an academic survey and bibliometrics on the tally of research papers and citations, as well as the data from institutions.?

For this year’s league table, THE has been working with more than 400,000 data values and has resolved upwards of 30,000 queries. ?

THE’s bibliometric data supplier Elsevier has analysed 16.5 million research papers, which is 1 million more than last year. Additionally, 134 million citations have been examined, compared with last year’s 121 million.??

The Academic Reputation Survey, which is run annually by THE, was conducted between October 2022 and January 2023 for the upcoming ranking. Data from 2023 was combined with the results of the 2022 survey, leading to more than 68,000 responses and over 900,000 votes from 166 countries.??

The methodology for this year’s World University Rankings has been updated to include four new metrics to evaluate citations and patents. Details about the new World University Rankings methodology (WUR 3.0) can be found here.??

Among the total number of universities that provided data, 1,904 institutions from 108 countries will be ranked in the overall league table for 2024. The remaining 769 institutions have been given “reporter” status, which means that, although they submitted data, they did not meet our eligibility criteria to receive a ranking.??

The data collected for the World University Rankings will also be used to compile 11 subject tables, as well as several regional and thematic rankings, including our?Arab,?Asia, Latin America?and?Young University?tables.?

The World University Rankings 2024 will be launched at THE’s World Academic Summit in Sydney, from 26 to 28 September. .
