Nipissing University is a primarily undergraduate public liberal arts university located in North Bay, Ontario. It takes its name from Lake Nipissing, onto which it looks out. With roots extending back to the 1900*s with the North Bay Normal School, the university became an affiliate of Laurentian University in 1967 and was recognised as an independent university in 1992.
Nipissing University is composed of three faculties: the Faculty of Applied and Professional Studies; the Faculty of Arts and Science; and the Schulich School of Education; as well as the School of Graduate Studies. Programmes on offer include four distinct nursing programmes, teacher training, including diplomas in teaching in indigenous classrooms and college transfer programmes focussed on business and science.
Research excellence has increasingly become a priority for the university and, as a result, Nipissing has grown its research culture significantly over the past decade. The institution is currently attracting tri-council funding, research grants and industry funding.
The university shares its main campus in North Bay with Canadore College and has a satellite campus in Southern Ontario.
