As a member of the Multiscale Intelligent Biodevices Lab (MIB), led by Dr. Rujie Sun at the University of Southampton, you will lead efforts to develop innovative bioelectronic systems that integrate real-time monitoring and therapeutic functions. Your primary focus will be designing and fabricating flexible bioelectronics that can interface seamlessly with biological tissues, combining soft robotic techniques to enhance personalized treatment. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on interdisciplinary projects, pushing the frontiers of personalized medicine and health management. In this project, you will collaborate with Inha University and have access to a broad network of academic partners, including Imperial College London, University of Oxford, University of Bristol, and University of Liverpool. Additionally, we work closely with industrial and clinical collaborators, providing opportunities for fostering new partnerships and expanding your professional network.

The successful applicant should have required qualifications and experience


	Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related disciplines with a strong academic record (Or working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD).
	Research Interests: Demonstrated enthusiasm for research in flexible bioelectronics, soft medical robotics, or related fields.
	Skills: Extensive experience in microfabrication techniques for bioelectronics or soft robotics, as well as expertise in biomaterials for medical tools. Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and excellent communication skills.

The role

UKRI-funded Project: Vertical Farming to Improve UK Food System Resilience (VF-UKFSR)

We invite applications for a Research Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary team working on the project Vertical Farming to Improve UK Food System Resilience (VF-UKFSR)?(fixed term contract upto 26 months). This project has recently secured ?1.4 million in funding through the UKRI call on sustainable food systems and will explore whether vertical farming can play a key role in improving and safeguarding the UK’s food system. The project focuses on how vertical farming can provide local, diverse, and culturally appropriate food, leveraging its potential to grow a wide variety of crops.

This is an exciting opportunity for a successful candidate to contribute to studying public perceptions and understandings of vertical farming and to explore the social conditions necessary for its successful adoption.

Key Responsibilities:


	Conduct research on lay people’s perceptions of vertical farming.
	Contribute to identifying the social conditions necessary for the successful adoption of vertical farming.
	Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists from fields including social psychology, environmental science, and complexity science, as well as partners from the non-academic sector.


Essential Requirements:


	A doctorate degree in a relevant social science discipline, such as social psychology, sociology, or food consumer science.
	A developing profile of high-quality publications.
	Strong skills in literature review, synthesis, and analytical methods.
	Expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
	Excellent knowledge of statistics and quantitative analysis.
	Experience working in complex, multi-disciplinary teams is desirable.


The successful candidate will be based at the Food, Consumer Behaviour, and Health Research Centre (FCBH), within the School of Psychology at the University of Surrey. This role is open to application by statisticians or data scientists who have a strong research interest and growing reputation in statistical modelling or cognate fields with demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary and/or applied research. The successful candidate will support the research of Professor Samuel Muller, Head of School, and will collaborate with members of his research group.

The successful candidate will be expected to make a vigorous contribution in one or more of the following research areas and contribute to the supervision of PhD and MRes research students as well as assist and/or lead statistical consulting activities:


	Developing model visualisation methods to enable interactive and dynamic model building;
	Robust selection and estimation in regression type models;
	Variable selection and inference for statistically challenging data, including for longitudinal, clustered and correlated univariate and multivariate responses;
	Investigating theoretical properties of regularization methods in various asymptotic scenarios and improving these methods by learning from resampling-based stability information;
	Classification and improved prediction methods for multiplatform data;
	Devising statistical methods for the analysis of multi-layered and structured data in bioinformatics, microbiome and neuroscience applications.
